The Ruling on Shaking Hands after the Prayer regularly


Question :

What is the legal ruling on shaking hands directly after the prayer, is it an innovation or a Sunnah? And (what is) the evidence for the ruling?


Answer:

We do not know any basis for the practice of shaking hands immediately after the obligatory prayer on a regular basis; in fact, it is an innovation and it has been authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah that he said:
"Whoever performed a deed which is not in conformity with this matter (i.e. this religion) of ours, will have it rejected.

In one narration:
"Whoever innitated something in this matter (i.e. this religion) of ours that is not from it, will have it rejected.
