The Ruling on a Mourning Woman Answering the Telephone, and Wearing a Watch
Question :
During the mourning period for the death of a husband, is it permissible for the wife to use the telephone to talk to women and those who are Mahrams for her, such as her son, for example?
Answer:
Yes, it is permissible for her to do that with women and those men who are Mahrams for her, in accordance with the basic principle, which is permission. It is also permissible for her to speak to men other than those who are Mahrams for her by telephone, as long as it is in a manner which contains nothing forbidden by the Islamic Law.
Question :
Is it permissible for a woman during the mourning watch, in order to keep the time, not for adornment?
Answer:
Yes, it is permissible for her to do that, because the matter is in accordance with the intention. However it is better not to, because it resembles jewelry.
