The Ruling on Accusing Someone
Based on Suspicion

Question :

A person accuses another of drinking alcohol even though he knows that that person never drank any alcohol; he accuses him only to ruin his reputation. What is the ruling regarding this?

Answer:

Here we must advise both the accuser and his audience -

people who listen to his slander. As for the accuser, it is not allowed for anyone to accuse someone, attempting only to ruin his reputation; Allâh Almighty says:
"O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not."

It is forbidden for you to accuse someone based on weak evidence or based merely on a feeling, because doing so falls under the following verse:
"O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions."Qaf 50:18" class="fa fa-archive text-info" aria-hidden="true">

As for those who listen to the accusations: it is not allowed for you to accept an accusation that is founded on malice and hatred Allah Almighty says:
"O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards become regretful to what you have done."

So when a person comes to you with a rumor about someone, and you know that the former is someone who relishes. spreading news as soon as he hears it, make sure and verify what he is telling you. Some people actually enjoy creating an environment of dissension and discord; others spread rumors only about a specific person or a group of people because of a feud that exists between them.
