Being Naked During Sexual Intercourse

Question :

Is it permissible for a man to have sexual intercourse with his wife while they are both naked? Or must they cover themselves?

Answer:

It is an obligation upon every man and woman to cover his or her nakedness from people, except the husband with his wife and his slave-girl and vice versa. This is based upon. what was narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Majah, on the authority of Bahz bin Hakim, on the authority of his father, on the authority of his grandfather, who said: "I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Regarding our 'Awrah: From whom must we cover it, and to whom may it be shown?" He replied:
"Preserve your "Awrah except from your wife, or that which your right hand possesses."

I said: "And if the people are mixed together?" He replied:
"If you can prevent anyone from seeing it, then do not let them see it"

I said: "And if one of us is alone?" He said:
"Then Allah has more right to their modesty."

Thus, the Prophet made clear that, in general, when a person is alone, he should be covered.
