God is One

There are five pillars of Islam.

The first pillar of Islam is the Shahadah. It is the most important thing that Muslims believe in.

In the Shahadah, Muslims say:

لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله

"There is no God but Allah. Muhammad is the messengerof Allah."

The first part of the Shahadah says we believe in one God.

The belief in one God is called Tawheed.

Surat Al - Ikhlas

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ.

قُلْ هُوَ اللّٰهُ أَحَدٌ ، اَللّٰهُ الصَّمَدُ ، لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُوْلَدْ ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ.

Transliteration :

[1] Qul huw-Allahu ahad
[2] Allah-us-samad
[3] Lam yalid walam yoolad
[4] Walam yakul lahu kufuwan ahad

Translation :

[1] Say: "God is the one and only God.
[2] Allah needs no one, but all need Him.
[3] He has no child, nor was He born.
[4] And no one is like Him.

Why is Allah only one?

God is One because no one can be like Him or does what He can do.

God is only One because there is nothing else like Him. Allah has all the power. No one can be like Him. No one can create the world, the stars, and the sun other than Allah. No one can make people and animals like He can.

Hadeeth Shareef

عن جابر بن عبد الله أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «أفضل ذكر الله قول: لا إله إلا الله، لا إله إلا الله».
رواه الترمذي

TRANSLITERATION

"Afdal-u-Thikri La Ilaha IllAllah"

TRANSLATION

Jabir Ibn Abdullah reported that the Prophet said: "The best way to remember Allah is to say: "La ilaha illAllah"; there is no God but Allah.

Allah is One!

Allah has Al-Asmaa-ul-Husna, the beautiful names of Allah.

There are 99 names. Let us learn some of them:

Allah is Al-Wahid........الواحد......The One

Allah is As Samad.......الصمد......The Self-Sufficient

Allah is Al-Hayy.........الحي.......The Living

Allah is Al-Qayyum.......القيّوم......The Self-Existing

Allah is Al-Aliyy.........العلي......The Great

Allah is Al-Atheem.....العظيم.......The Most High
