To Supplicate While Looking at the Stars


Question :

I heard a Hadith in which it is said that whoever looks at the stars and says this invocation, then good deeds. equal to the number of the stars in the sky will be written for him. The invocation is:
"Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire."

Is this Hadith authentic?


Answer:

I know of no such Hadith, and I remember no invocation that one should say while specifically looking at the stars.

Nonetheless, we are ordered to reflect and contemplate Allah's creation, all of it, including the stars. To further understand this invocation, which is found at the end of Surah Al Imran, you may read its explanation in books of Tafsir such as Ibn Kathir that mention Hadiths that consist of profound admonitions and lessons.
