This Act is Sin
Question :
There are some people who listen to music and who, when they are told of its prohibition, claim that they are not really paying attention to it and that it is just like any other background noise; others claim that they are listening to the words and not to the music? How can we refute them?
Answer:
No doubt, this is wrong; both the singer and the person listening to his songs are sinning: Allâh Almighty says:
"And of mankind is he who purchases (Lahw Al-Hadith) idle talk"
And there are other proofs as well. The people who claim that they are listening to the words without enjoying the music are wrong and should be reproached. Rather than listening to music, they should first repent and then supplicate; they must remember Allah, listen to the Qur'an, and to other speech that will reap them benefit.
