Rulings Regarding Animals
Question :
People often buy birds and put them into cages, not for any practical purpose, but so that they or their children will have pets. Is this permitted in Islam?
Answer:
As long as they give the birds sufficient food and drink, then there is no harm in keeping them as pets. In such situations, the general rule is permissibility, unless there is evidence to the contrary, and here, as far as we know, there is no such evidence.
